The annual renewal of membership usually takes place at the end of September on ‘Finals Day’. This year due to COVID -19 there will be no ’Finals Day’, there has been no summer league tennis and, of course, we were also forced to close the club completely for a short period. In the circumstances, the Committee have agreed to extend the existing membership for a further period to the 1st March 2021. This gives existing Members five months ‘free membership’ but also gives the club the opportunity to launch the new season in early March and to continue to enjoy Finals Day for its own merits at the end of September. The Club can afford to do this due to the generous grant of £10k received from Teignbridge Council. There is also some merit in doing it from an accounting point of view, with the annual accounts continuing to run to 30th September . We obviously wish to continue to add new members and our Membership Secretary Jill Pill, as she already does , will be happy to sign new members up on a reduced introductory rate, to take them to March 2021.
I take this opportunity to confirm that the toilet remains available for use but the hut should only be entered for use of this facility.
There is much uncertainty about almost every aspect of life at the moment and the club will continue to follow Government and LTA guidance as circumstances change.
We are lucky that tennis has continued to a greater extent than many other sports so let us all enjoy it whilst continuing to stay alert and stay safe.
